The adviser of President Mahmoud Abbas of telecommunications and information technology said that the regulatory commission of the telecommunications sector will be within 6 months and will include independent personalities. Saidam said in an interview with Al-Ayyam "the Board of Directors will consist of 7 persons appointed by President Abbas within placement of Council of Ministers; the President will also appoint an executive director of the Commission upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors". He said: these arrangements will take time and may extend to 6 months; the Ministry of Communications will continue to organize the telecommunications sector during this period.
Flight lasted 10 years of law:
President Abbas signed last week the law the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, after a decade of controversy and debate. Saidam said: With the law"s entry into force, and what will be followed by the formation of the commission, we can say we inaugurated a new era in the telecommunications sector, which in had been participated by a group of domestic public and private institutions and the international community and international institutions, and this opportunity to extend my thanks and appreciation to all these institutions, as well as to thank the President Abbas, who believed with the need to regulate this sector.
Wataniya face great difficulties:
On the other hand, Saidam assured that the process of launching the commercial service of the second mobile operator Wataniya is facing great difficulties because of Israel"s procrastination in granting frequencies for the Palestinian National Authority. He said: Israel allowed frequencies OF 900 MHz for the work of Palestinian Telecommunications Company, and when asked for the allocation of more frequencies for the Wataniya wanted to expand the frequencies on this scale, has continued negotiations with Israel for a long period during which direct intervention by President Abbas and former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and we got the preliminary approval, but Wataniya is like JAWWAL, suffered from difficulties in the introduction of the towers and equipment, however, was able to install more than %80 of towers required for operation.
