Ramallah- Al Ayyam: The deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Suliman Zuhairi assured yesterday that the merger deal between JAWWAL the subsidiary of the Palestinian Telecommunication Group and ZAIN Jordan the subsidiary of ZAIN group is nearing to completion, adding that the Palestinian National Authority had taken into consideration the public interest and the interest of the citizen and the national economy in accordance with the laws in force.
This came during a workshop organized by the federation of information systems BETA regarding the new licenses to provide broadband services for Internet protocol telephony within the Internet, with the participation of members of the Board of Directors of the Federation, and representatives of companies operating in the ICT sector.
Zuhairi said that the licensing of new companies is part of the strategy of the Ministry of Communications and its efforts to open the market to liberalization, by allowing the entry of new firms to compete fairly and in accordance with the standards of transparency. He explained that many companies are still working to re-sell internet services without a license and illegally, prompting the ministry to issue new licenses to reduce this phenomenon and as a mechanism to control the market.
