Bank of Palestine opens a representative office in Chile

Bank of Palestine BOP opened a representative office in Chile, to becomethe first Arab bank to have a presence in the country. BOP's Chairmatm Hashim Shawa, who will be present at the opening ceremony, began the process to open the office two years ago, when he met with officials from banking regulator SBIF to request a license to open a representative office in capital Santiago. Back then, he said that up to 2% of the bank's capital was owned by Palestinians living in Chile. BoP has also previously fundraised in Chile for its Ibtikar capital risk fund that invests in tech start-ups. it is worth mentioning Chile is home to the largest Palestinian community outside of the Arab world, numbering in the hundreds of thousands.
